Immerse yourself in our culture and traditions

The Serra de Tramuntana: a cultural landscape recognised by UNESCO
n 2011, UNESCO declared the Serra de Tramuntana a World Heritage Site in the cultural landscape category. This international recognition highlights the coexistence between nature and human activity over the centuries, with traditional systems of water management, terraced crops and dry-stone constructions. Preserving the Serra means safeguarding the living memory of Mallorca and an irreplaceable legacy.

Workshops, guided itineraries and training activities are organised for schools and visitors, with the aim of promoting respect for and knowledge of the natural environment of the Serra de Tramuntana.

Escorca and music: nature and spirituality in harmony
Music is part of the essence of Escorca, with unique expressions that connect sound art with the natural and spiritual environment.
One of the most emblematic moments is the Concert al Torrent de Pareis, held annually in summer, which turns this spectacular natural site into an open-air auditorium. Its rugged surroundings and natural acoustics make this concert an unforgettable experience within Mallorca’s cultural calendar.
On the other hand, the Santuari de Lluc is home to the Escolania dels Blauets, a children’s choir founded centuries ago that sings daily in the basilica and takes part in special celebrations.

Man and snow: a craft of resilience in the Serra
For centuries, the collection and preservation of snow was a fundamental activity in the Serra de Tramuntana.
The cases de neu, dug into the ground and covered with stone and branches, allowed the snow accumulated in winter to be stored and transformed into ice, which was transported to Palma for medicinal, gastronomic and domestic uses.
This practice, active in Mallorca from the 16th century until the early 20th century, required a hard and organised collective effort. In Escorca, around twenty of these structures are still preserved, silent witnesses of a past of adaptation and use of natural resources.

Archaeology in Escorca: ancient traces in the Serra
The Serra de Tramuntana, inhabited since 5000 BC, is a territory rich in prehistoric and archaeological remains.
In the municipality of Escorca, sites such as the jaciment d’Almallutx, an ancient settlement linked to the cultura talaiòtica, and the Cova de la Cometa dels Morts, a funerary cave that reveals rituals of the island’s first human communities, stand out.
These places shed light on the earliest origins of human presence on the island and highlight the cultural footprint in the heart of the Serra.

Els Blauets de Lluc: music with centuries of history
The Escolania dels Blauets, with origins documented in the 13th century, is one of the most cherished symbols of the Santuari de Lluc.
This mixed children’s choir, made up of boys and girls, performs liturgical and traditional songs every day in the basilica, and takes part in special events that attract visitors from all over.
Their music forms part of the spiritual landscape of the Santuari and has featured in recordings, documentaries and screenings that have given visibility to the oldest Mallorcan choral tradition.
