Description
The watchtowers are part of Escorca’s defensive heritage and recall a time when the coast of Mallorca needed protection systems against pirate attacks. From 1579 onwards, these constructions began to be planned to protect the inhabitants of the coast and visually control the most exposed points of the coastline.
This defensive system was completed in 1611 with the construction of the Torre des Forat, one of the most outstanding testimonies of this past. Today, the watchtowers allow us to discover an essential part of Escorca’s history and contemplate the coastal landscape from a heritage perspective, linked to security, the sea and the memory of the territory.
