How to get there?

The Ma-10 road runs through the Serra de Tramuntana from Pollença to Andratx. Inaugurated on July 23, 1961, this road is the most touristic and attractive on the island, offering an exceptional viewpoint and crossing landscapes declared World Heritage by UNESCO. A privileged route to do by car, motorbike or bicycle.

You can also access it by public transport using the lines that serve the municipality, the 231 Sóller – Alcúdia and the 312 Lluc – Inca , in addition to having a taxi service. Another option is the maritime access to Sa Calobra, an essential excursion to enjoy the impressive landscapes of the coast. From the Port of Sóller, you can take boats that make the journey to Cala Tuent and the Port of Sa Calobra .

Heritage of Escorca

Torres de vigilància (Watchtowers)

From 1579, to protect the inhabitants of the coast of Escorca from pirates, watchtowers began to be planned. The defense system was completed in 1611 with the construction of the Torre des Forat. These towers formed a communication network through smoke and fire signals, connecting strategic points on the coast and allowing Palma, the seat of political and military power, to be alerted. Today, although they have lost their original function, they continue to be points of reference in coastal navigation and historical witnesses of the defense of Mallorca.

Traditional Mallorcan Estates

The possessions are large tracts of land dedicated to agriculture and livestock, linked to a house. Its origin goes back to the 13th century, after the Catalan conquest of Mallorca. They were independent production units, essential in the economy and society of the Mallorcan peasantry. Many properties have been subdivided or transformed into second homes due to the socio-economic changes brought about by tourism. Some still maintain agricultural or livestock production, combining it with agritourism activities

Museums and Centers

The Serra de Tramuntana Nature Reserve Interpretation Center welcomes visitors in Lluc, next to the Sanctuary car park. In addition, the Sanctuary houses a museum and a botanical garden. In the public estates of Menut and Binifaldó are the Forestry Center and the Environmental Education Center.

Sa Calobra

Sa Calobra is the gateway to the Pareis torrent, surrounded by cliffs of more than 200 m, clear waters and nature declared a Natural Monument. Accessing Sa Calobra is an adventure: 800 curves, the Nus de la Corbata and a rocky and silent cove where the Tramuntana merges with the sea.

Interpretation Center of the Natural Area of ​​the Serra de Tramuntana

Bark and music: nature and spirituality in harmony

Music is part of the essence of Escorca, with unique manifestations that connect sound art with the natural and spiritual environment. One of the most emblematic moments is the Concert al Torrent de Pareis , held annually in the summer, which turns this spectacular natural setting into an open-air auditorium. Its rugged surroundings and natural acoustics make this concert an unforgettable experience on Mallorca’s cultural calendar.

On the other hand, the Sanctuary of Lluc is home to the Escolania dels Blauets , a children’s choir founded centuries ago that sings daily in the basilica and participates in special celebrations.

Man and snow: a craft of resistance in the Sierra

For centuries, the collection and preservation of snow was a fundamental activity in the Serra de Tramuntana. Snow houses , dug into the ground and covered with stone and branches, allowed the snow accumulated in winter to be stored and transformed into ice , which was transported to Palma for medicinal, gastronomic and domestic uses.

This practice, active in Mallorca from the 16th century to the early 20th century , required a hard and organized collective effort. In Escorca, about twenty of these structures are still preserved, silent testimony to a past of adaptation and exploitation of natural resources.

Archaeology in Escorca: ancient footprints in the Sierra

The Serra de Tramuntana, inhabited since 5000 BC, is a territory rich in prehistoric and archaeological remains. In the municipality of Escorca, places such as the Almallutx site , an ancient settlement related to the Talayotic culture, and the Cova de la Cometa dels Morts , a funerary cavity that reveals rituals of the first human communities, stand out.
These places shed light on the oldest origins of human presence on the island and highlight the cultural imprint in the heart of the Sierra.

Els Blauets de Lluc: music with centuries of history

The Escolania dels Blauets, with documented origins in the 13th century , is one of the most beloved symbols of the Sanctuary of Lluc. This mixed children’s choir , made up of boys and girls, performs liturgical and traditional songs every day in the basilica , and participates in special events that attract visitors from all over.

Their music is part of the spiritual landscape of the Sanctuary and has been the protagonist in recordings, documentaries and screenings that have made the oldest Majorcan choral tradition visible.
